The presentation will describe how youth/children’s literature is being used in your organization and the ways in which your literature program benefits the young people you serve. You will want your listeners to understand the importance of the literature program and be willing to support its continuance.

This may be a real or a hypothetical situation. It may be a situation in which you have worked, are now working, or hope to work in the future.

A juvenile detention facility, and the presentation is addressed to the county or city commission or to a civic group such as the Rotary Club

Points to keep in mind:

• You should use the information in the earlier reading assignments about the contributions that literature can make to children’s lives.
• You should use information and examples from your experience with various genres of youth literature.
• Tell the audience how they can help you- be specific. Are you looking for volunteers? Money? Donations? If so, list contact information for them.

o Colors must have sharp contrast between letters/writing and background. For example, yellow letters on black background, or navy letters on cream colored background.
o Avoid decorative images that are not part of your message. These can be distracting. Do not use animation or add sound to slide transitions.
o Images (drawings or photos) should be displayed in a balanced screen along with textboxes

o The text use a minimum of words to communicate the message.
o Use photos you have taken, or simple drawings that you snap with your camera and upload to the presentation software.
o If you use drawings from the Internet, you must give credit to avoid copyright violation. I recommend Pixaby.com. Images are free and do not require copyright permission.

• The minimum length is 6 slides. The maximum length is 12 slides. Must have images on 2 to 3 of the slides. Must include a title slide with your name, the name of your “organization”, and LIBS 4950
