Differences in Samuel and Chronicles
Goal: The goal of the project is to think about similarities and differences between biblical texts that describe the same event in Samuel/Chronicles. Our goal is to understand how different historical time periods affect the goals of biblical writers, and how to account for differences in biblical texts.
Instructions: This assignment asks you to consult at least two commentaries per question. Choose your commentaries from the pdf’s on this Moodle page. You can use the same two commentaries for all the questions. Do NOT consult study bibles as a commentary for this assignment.
For all references, list the bibliographic information this way: For a book: Author. Title. Publishing City: Publisher, Year Published, page number. Read and compare the differences in how David’s extension of his empire is described in 2 Samuel 8:1-14, 1 Chronicles 18:1-13, and Psalm 60:2. Consult at least two commentaries for each question to describe why these differences are here.
