Answer the following questions and submit COMPLETE answers to your instructor via email. Be sure to list what academic/scholarly resources you used to answer these questions. If using a textbook, be sure to put page numbers. Use examples from the case study to support your answers. Be prepared to discuss your answers in detail, relating them back to the End of Life scenario.
Part I: After reviewing the video, answer the following questions. Please type complete answers for these questions. Be prepared to discuss your answers and rationales during the Zoom post-conference.
- What does DNR indicate?DNR is a medical directive chosen by a patient while he or she is of sound mind. It meansDO Not Resuscitate.if the person is in the process of dying, the doctors and nurses do nothing to try and save that person’s life.

- What is the difference between DNR and “care and comfort” orders?
- During the scenario the nurse suctioned Mrs. Marshall and elevated the head of the bed even when the daughter said her mom was in “so much pain.” Were these interventions appropriate? Explain why or why not.Nurse elevating the head of bed and suctioning Mrs. Marshall was appropriate since she was trying to provide comfort, but the priority intervention for Mrs. Marshall is pain management.
- Please provide examples where the nurse used effective therapeutic communication. Can you identify any areas for improvement?

- What is the American Nurse Association (ANA) position about relieving pain for dying patients, even if it shortens their life?

Refer to pages 739-745 of your Perry and Potter Fundamentals of Nursing 9th ed. textbook.
Look at Table 36.1 Religious beliefs about health on p. 739. Choose one religious culture from the chart to answer the following questions:Your course resources will help you with the answers. Feel free to use other resources as well.
For the client with the religious culture of your choice:
- Are there any dietary concerns for this client? If so, what are they and how could the nurse (you) address these concerns?
- What are their core beliefs on death and dying?
- What are their perceptions of health and wellness?
- Identify any special considerations for this cultural group and specific nursing interventions to deliver culturally competent nursing care during palliative and end-of-life care.
