12 Angry Men
Compare and contrast two of the jurors in Twelve Angry Men. Describe how prejudice clouds their judgement. You may want to consider personal histories of the jurors, as well as economic, social and cultural factors that play a role in how they view this case.
Note: Do not choose the 8th Juror as one of your two jurors for this topic.
What is Reginald Rose’s message with respect to “Justice” and the judicial system? Does he extol the virtues of a judicial system based on compassionate, reasoned decisions made by ordinary people; or, does he criticize the system; or, does he do a bit of both?
Discuss how and why the 8th Juror is the “hero” of the play.
A film and a book are two different genres. Consider the two versions of the story and discuss which made a bigger impact. Examine the setting and atmosphere, the way the characters are shown and interact, and what role music and/or lighting play. Are there any major changes between the two forms; and, if so, what is the impact of these changes?
