Write an essay evaluating a specific subject. Examine your subject closely, and make a
judgment about it. Give reasons for your judgment that are based on widely recognized criteria or standards for evaluating a subject like yours. Support your reasons with examples and other details primarily from your subject. (312)
Additionally, you should include research from secondary sources about your subject. The essay should be formatted according to the most recent APA guidelines.You can evaluate any subject you wantexcept for a literary text, as this is the purview of Comp II.
Details
Your essay must:
- Be 800-1000 words;
- Use 12-point, Times New Roman font;
- Be double-spaced, with one-inch margins;
- Observe the other APA guidelines for document format (information can be found at the OWL at Purdue).
Grading
I will grade your essay on its demonstration of the genre’s basic features in addition to other conventions of effective writing. It must:
- Argue a well-presented subject;
- Have a clearly identifiable orienting statement, either a thesis or forecasting statement;
- Present a well-supported judgment that is clearly articulated and supported with appropriate evidence, including fromthreesecondary, scholarlysources;
- Appeal to reason and avoid logical fallacies;
- Integrate material from sources, which means the use of signal phrases, with appositives, and parenthetical citationsobserving formalAPAconventions;
- Include a List of References page in current APA format;
- Respond effectively to opposing views, which includes anticipation of objections and alternative judgments;
- Develop a clear, logical organization with adequate transitions and support that follows an order predetermined by the introduction;
- Observe conventions of academic writing regarding paragraphs, especially with respect to the use of cohesive devices and transitions;
- Observe conventions of academic writing regarding diction, especially with respect to the use of precise language and elegant sentences;
- Avoid proofreading/copyediting errors;
- Follow document formatting guidelines.
