I am going to be looking into the effects of schooling on homelessness in the twin cities first and then I will be comparing it across the US. Homelessness has always been an issue in America, and I want to see if education whether that home-schooled, a high school education or a college education has an impact on homelessness. This research question is important to me because I want to see how important education really is and I want to know how much college can help you get away from homelessness. I would find it really hard to believe that people could be homeless if they have a college degree, but this study may change my view.
My data will be obtained throughout researching certain time periods (time series data) and comparing it to the US. For example, I will look through 2018 and look at local homelessness shelter and grab a sample large enough to compare to another one in the US. I will compare these and see what the homelessness levels are at as well as education. Once compared I will try and do this with multiple different shelters to have a better scope of things. Mostly going to check if the person completed High school or not and then may divide them as well based on race and sex to account for some variance.
Some challenges I may run to are that not just education factors into homelessness. Crimes are a big factor when it comes to homelessness as well as generational wealth. Taking these into consideration will be very important but finding data that includes all these things will be tricky as well.
