Our Midterm Essay involves a 4 page formal research essay. The 4 pages is exclusive of a works cited page. YOU MUST STILL PROVIDE A WORKS CITED PAGE. THE WORKS CITED PAGE WILL NOT COUNT TO THE TOTAL 4 PAGE REQUIREMENT.

This essay must  have

-Introduction page

• At least one primary source(sources reprinted in a book counts as this too)
• 3 secondary sources(this can be journal articles, websites, and research books)
• A well written proofread essay with a proper thesis statement and research to defend that said thesis statement.
• A works cited page

Format

. Times new Roman Font size 12. Double Spaced. One-inch margins. A works cited page is required. All citations must be seen and visible.

Below are a list of question to choose from.

1. How did the Spanish empire lay the groundwork for colonization for other European empires?
2. When do Americans start identifying as Americans and what are the factors that shape this identity?
3. How did early colonial legal and economicstructures contribute to the growth of the slave trade ?
4. Biography on an American congressmen. Identify a American congressman from 1791-1865. What impact did they have on shaping American politics, society, or culture ?
5. An American invention. Name an American invention that changed American economics from 1791-1865.(NOT THE COTTON GIN)
6. Examine the formation of any single amendment from 1791 to1865. Why and how did the Amendment come about ?
7. Explain the ideologies that influenced an American war through use of a single primary source. (examples: American revolutionary war, War of 1812, Mexican-American War, or the American Civil war.
8. Independent study- get professor Lewin to approve a topic you want to study. (You must get it approved by Professor Lewin. You must have a research question and original thesis)
9. Compromise and analyze. Examine a “great compromise” in American politics. How did rival political groups in the two party system arrive at this compromise.
