Case Analysis Assignment

Your task for this assignment is to assess the major issues in the case and to support your ideas with concepts from our discussions and course readings. This paper should be between 5 pages. 1.5 line spaced not including a cover sheet is used and the reference page.Required FormatYour Paper should be organized in three sections. The three section headings below need to appear in your paper!Section 1- Executive SummaryThink of this as an opening argument in the court room. This section should only be about 2-3 short paragraphs long. It serves as a very brief summary of the state team finds itself in at this moment, the 3-4 most important overarching issues that have driving the situation. Do not give me a synopsis of the case facts. Instead, give me a synopsis of the argument you are about to make throughout the rest of your paper. Section 2- Issues and AnalysisHaving identified the key drivers of the situation, you will use this section to explain and analyze them. You must use the following concepts in your analysis. REQUIRED Concepts
DISC
Thomas Killman Conflict Model
Vroom Decision Making Matrix
Situational Leadership ModelOptional concepts
Decision Traps Article
Bradford and Cohen CurrenciesIt would be helpful to use short examples from the case to illustrate/provide evidence to support your analysis. Remember you are building towards recommendations that will deal with the problems you have identified. This section shows that you understand how theory applies to this complex situation and establishes the basis for why your recommendations will work. Section 3 – Actions to Remedy Current Situation Going ForwardIn this section explain the most important actions that would address the problems based on your analysis. Use the concepts you chose to support the reasoning behind your recommendations. It helps to be specific about what to do and who will do it. For example, “Someone needs to take more of a leadership role” is too vague. Stronger papers will explain who, what steps they might take, what obstacles they face taking the action, and how can overcome them.———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-Some questions to consider when analyzing the case and formulating your paper:
What goal is the group working toward? Is there more than one goal operating within the overall team? Are the team members all on the same page?
What do you see as the 3-4 most significant problems/issues they are encountering that prevents them from delivering on their goal(s)?Individual Styles DISC: What are the individual styles of the major characters? Are the natural perspectives and tensions that help to explain what is happening? When considering their behavior think carefully about what they seem to be emphasizing. For example, you may see directive or assertive behavior in more than one person, but consider what they seem to be emphasizing, what are they reacting to, or what are they trying to achieveDecision Making/LeadershipVroom Matrix: What approach are key players like Sasha, Henry, Dana (and If relevant other team members) taking to who is involved in decisions and how are they being involved?Decision Making Traps: Are the Sasha/ The Russians exhibiting any of the symptoms from the article?Situational Leadership: What are some of the major tasks within the group. Who is leading them? What is their readiness level? Are Sasha’s leadership behaviors in line with each person’s readiness?Conflict ManagementWhat problems do you see with the way the team handles conflict? A couple concepts that could be helpful hereDISC: Are there natural tensions between the different styles of the key players that contribute to the conflicts in the case?Thomas-Killmann: What approaches to conflict model to you see happening? By whom and why do you think that might be?Given where the MGI team is NOW, what are the 3-4 key actions that could refocus the situation and achieve a positive outcome? – Be specific on the outcome. You may want to differentiate between short-term goals and longer-term goals- What are the most important 3-4 most important actions that could get them on track to meet their goals and who should take them? There are already history here so additional points can be derived from articulating potential problems/challenges that posed by it and how to address them to assure your forward moving actions will work In each action who is/are the 1-2 person(s) who needs to be influenced the most and who is needs to/is in the best position to do the influencing?§ DISC-what style themes would be important to each influence target in question? How how might the person trying to influence that target approach them in order to satisfy that target’s style needs§ Bradford and Cohen: What currencies might be important to the influence targets and how would you deliver them in order to get them to go along with your recommended actions§ Situational Leadership: Looking at each major task consider what is their readiness level, what type of support/style to the need from a leader (S1, S2, S3, S4)? If some on is overseeing/working through others to see that a major task is accomplished, what is each person’s readiness level and how should the leader adjust in style to each person.
