Find a literature review in your field by using the GMU Library website. The best way to find a discipline-specific literature review is to use a database in the Subject Guide that is specifically for your discipline (i.e. not one of the general databases like Academic Search Complete). Specifically include “literature review” in quotation marks in the search criteria. https://library.gmu.edu/
Then, answer the following questions about the literature review (answers do not need to be in complete sentences):
Include a reference in APA, MLA, or Chicago of that literature review.
What is the purpose of this literature review and how do you know?
Who is the specific audience of this literature review and how do you know?
Are there keywords for the literature review and where in the literature review do you see them appear (introduction, conclusion, specific parts of the body, etc.)?
How is it organized? (by theme, chronologically, by methods, etc.)
What visual or structural elements do you notice? (subheadings, graphs, etc.)
How does it deal with references? (quoting v. paraphrasing, multiple references per paragraph, etc.)
What ideas can you apply from this literature review to your own literature review? (way it is organized, the type of literature review it is, how it uses graphs, etc.)
