Employee Rights and Discipline

The attached is an explanation of the employee disciplinary process and you are being asked to evaluate Performance Behaviors for the most appropriate form of Discipline. In a separate document, create a Memo to document how you would evaluate these behaviors and the actions you would take using the progressive discipline model for the submission of this assignment. You may opt to address each behavior individually and create categories based on actions (e.g., probation would be the action and then list the behaviors would apply probation as the action), but provide an overall generally summary of why you proposed the course of action for each behavior (e.g., why certain behaviors warrant suspension vs. probation or termination). Keep in mind the distinction between probation (employee’s behavior needs closer monitoring but it okay to remain in the workplace) vs. suspension (employee behavior warrants a more detailed investigation and needs to be removed from the workplace until it is concluded).

NOTE: You are to address each of the 20 plus behaviors listed, not the 4 categories. You may opt to create a chart/table to categorize the behaviors.

Define progressive discipline and due process as it relates to terminating employees or taking disciplinary action?

Define employment-at-will. Does this doctrine provide protection for employees or employers in discharge situations? Explain.

Determine which of the common disciplinary issues warrant coaching/development in lieu of termination. Specifically address which behaviors result in: Doing Nothing, Verbal warning, Writing Warning, Suspension, Probation, or Termination.
