Response Paper
In their response papers, students should critically reflect on (not summarize!) the week’s assigned journal articles. Show that you have read, understood, and thought deeply about the material. At minimum, students should write about two of the week’s articles. In their reflection, students can consider these questions: (1) What are the strengths and weaknesses of the methodological approach or approaches in the articles? (2) What are differences and similarities among the articles? (3) Do you agree with the conclusions of the articles? Why or why not? (4) What might be some of the clinical or public health implications of the articles? Do they relate to any cases you have seen so far? (5) How is the topic of the articles reflected in the mainstream media? Accurately? Inaccurately? What would you want the public to know about the topic? (6) Do you have any personal experiences with this topic? For example, do you know anyone who is affected by the disorder, symptom, or phenomenon? Is the content of the articles consistent or inconsistent with your experience? (7) How have the articles contributed to your understanding of child and adolescent psychopathology? Were the findings or conclusions surprising in any way, or did they reflect what you consider to be “common sense”? These are just suggestions – feel free to reflect on any other questions that are meaningful to you
