Project Description: The project is to develop a macroeconomic picture of a country other than the United States. The project requires doing internet research, compiling data into a readable form and analyzing the data to draw some conclusions about the future economic health of a country culminating in a well-researched and well-written presentation. The choice of country is your choice. I will not assign the countries. What to research: (Preferably, 5 years of historical data and current figures—you need both current and old data.) 1. real GDP (in exchange rate figures or purchasing power parity figures) 2. growth rate of real GDP 3. comparison of the growth rate of real GDP with the US growth rate of real GDP 4. real GDP per capita (purchasing power parity) 5. GINI index 6. ranking on the Index of Economic Freedom 7. ranking on the Global Competitiveness Index 8. inflation rate 9. unemployment rate 10.National or Public Debt (size, probable causes, percentage of GDP) 11.national currency 12.exchange rate for US dollars
The presentation should include definitions of the data (this will be a repeat of the book and/or lecture notes) with an explanation of what each data means for an economy. You should discuss the trends shown by looking at the data over time. For example, Is the country’s GDP is catching up with the US? How large will the country’s real GDP be in 15 years? What do the rankings on the Index of Economic Freedom and Global Competitiveness Index have to do with the country’s ability to grow? What is the effect of exchange rates on trade with the US? The data may be presented in a table or as a graph. However, just presenting data with no discussion is not acceptable. You must discuss the meanings of the data. Your conclusion must include some forecasting as to the future state of the economy in your country based on the trends you are seeing in the data. Your introduction should include the geographical location of your country, its type of government, and a few cultural facts. ECON 2100 paper Page 2 What to present: Option One is a well-written paper with an introduction and conclusion. Think back to your ENGL 1101 class and the directions for writing a term paper. BE CAREFUL OF PLAGIARISM. Just changing one or two words in a sentence is considered to be plagiarism. You must write the material in your own words. I expect that the paper will be 4-5 pages in length, typed, double-spaced, 10 point type, with minimal grammatical and spelling errors. It should have the correct heading for a paper and also correct citation format. You can use MLA or Chicago style or APA style but be consistent. You should have a work cited page as well as in-text citations. Utilize the services of the Learning and Tutoring Center for help with your writing. Utilize the research librarians for help with your research. Be sure to cite all sources for any illustrations, figures or tables that you cop
