Research paper
Your paper will be a minimum of 2000 words, maximum 2500 words. You will use either 3 library resources or 2 library resources and a legitimate internet source (not Wikipedia or Sparknotes). If you cannot go to the library, see the instructions below for finding online TJC Library resources.
Use MLA for reference on quoting and other pertinent information for a research paper. You must include quotations to substantiate your argument.
You will follow the format you were taught in 1301….Introduction, Body, Conclusion. The paper will be double spaced, and typed. See OWL: MLA Formatting and Style Guide

For a paper this length, you should include at least 5 paragraphs in the BODY. Remember that MORE IS NOT BETTER, it is just MORE. Be specific in your word choice. Choose words that convey a concrete thought or idea. Again, avoid the following ACTUALLY, REALLY, I THINK, and all other words and phrases that are non-essential.
You can choose your topic, but the writer must be in your textbook–for example, LIGHT and DARKNESS in “Young, Goodman Brown” or the same theme in Hawthorne’s novel, THE SCARLET LETTER. Another example–the number 2 in “Hills Like White Elephants” or suffering and pain in THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA (Hemingway’s novel). You are authorized to write on a play, short story, or poem.

page. Read the instructions for accessing the databases from off campus. Under the Literature heading, the best databases to use are Academic Search Complete, Gale Literature, and Literary Reference Center Plus.
SEARCH TIP! Narrow your search by clicking the box for “full text.” That way, your search will only include full articles or books available in the database. What you’re looking for is the FULL text of any document, rather than just a quick summary.
