Focusing on the period and styles covered by this unit, identify a particular visual work of art that inspires you, not just visually but intellectually. You may choose an artist and work discussed in your readings and video, but you are not limited to these options. Briefly research the background of the artist (the artist’s social and cultural life, the artist’s influences, etc., if applicable) and the work itself. Your post should be as original as possible.
How does the piece you chose express the features of its style movement or period? Be sure to include your thoughts on what you feel was a primary influence for the artist in developing the piece.

Try to describe, analyze, interpret and evaluate the chosen artwork to the best of your abilities, using knowledge you have acquired throughout this week, and using WRITING AN ART CRITIQUE and VISUAL ANALYSIS GUIDELINES documents provided under Module 2. Ensure that your choice was created in the time frames identified here.

Respond to classmates’ posts that have focused on different works of art than the one you chose. Compare your chosen work with theirs. You have to respond to at least two of your peers for a full credit. All your posts should be as substantive and substantial as possible.

For a full credit: Initial post (at least 200 words in length) has to be submitted by Thursday evening, or no later than on Friday evening. You have to respond to at least two of your peers and me (if you have been asked a question) with substantive and substantial posts (100-200 words) by Sunday evening.
Include images and used sources.

I am going to talk about Liberty Leading the People of Romanticism for this discussion. This painting was painted oil on canvas by Eugène Delacroix in 1830. Eugène Delacroix painted this to commemorate the July Revolution of 1830 (Britannica). This painting is about an event of 1830, which is the revolution of July. This July revolution, 1830 set the new king, Louis-Philippe. In the painting, there is a woman holding a French flag and leading those people from behind. This woman is an allegorical figure, Liberty. This figure is a personification of the idea of liberty, which leads many people willing to give up their lives and fight for liberty (Delacroix, Liberty Leading the People). The people in the foreground are clearly painted and people in the background are fuzzy. However, we can see that people from all classes joined the revolution. The man on the left is from the lower class and the man in a black suit is from the upper class. The paintings from Romanticism are mostly history painting and express freedom. The painting is a history painting theme piece. The liberty woman is showing her breast to reference to Ancient Greece and Roman tradition, which is democracy. Her face is showing only one side, which indicates Aphrodite, who is from ancient Roman. This painting really expresses freedom by using an allegorical figure of liberty, showing her breast and her one side face.
