You are to write about two of the films we’ve viewed thus far, and focus on one of their aesthetic choices from the following list: cinematography, camera movement, mis-en-scene, or narrative structure, or thematic character representation (ie, what does a central character represent, and does another character in a later film seem to refine or add onto that representation).
Explain these choices, giving at least two SPECIFIC examples of the element used in each film. Summarize with a concluding paragraph comparing and contrasting how these aesthetic choices served the theme and form of each of the films. You can use the textbook and other sources for assistance, but be sure to cite sources appropriately and keep quoted material to 10% or less of your paper. Do not use Wikipedia as a primary source. Make sure you cite external sources within the paper where you use the source, as well as in a separate References list. MLA Style.
Be specific in your analysis. A general thesis such as ‘Movies have similarities and differences–here are two’ will NOT work. 🙂 The more specific you can be about a precise element to compare/contrast, the better off you’ll be. Assume your reader has SEEN the film, before, so there’s no need to summarize the story.
Also make sure to use quotation marks and cite page numbers for any direct quotes from other sources.

Write at least 1000 words or four pages, but no more than 1250 words or five pages, 12 pt. type, double-spaced. This assignment will be graded on the basis of thoroughness and depth of your analysis of each film, and the overall quality of your writing.
In addition, avoid the use of ‘I’ ‘in our class’ and ‘to me, personally,’ as (with rare exception, and none in this class) the majority of critical essays focus on the work without the use of first-person.
