Take the Big 5 Personality test yourself: http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/j/5/j5j/IPIP/ipipneo120.htm Have an open mind when you look at your scores. If you answer truthfully, generally the big 5 does an excellent job of describing a person’s personality. If you disagree, examine the actual definition of the term carefully. Often we use these terms in everyday language differently than personality psychologists do. Sometimes people are concerned if they score high or low on certain traits because in everyday language, these words have negative associations. For example, it may sound bad to be low on agreeableness or high on neuroticism. In fact, in the Big 5 Trait model, these terms just describe tendencies that have both positive and negative consequences for people who have them. Part of your job in this assignment is to reflect on what these positive and negative consequences might be. Remember that all of these traits vary across the population and each has some advantages and disadvantages. None is intrinsically good or bad. Answer the following 3 questions in 250-500 words. (1) What is your most extreme score? Do you believe that this score describes you accurately? Provide 3 pieces of evidence to support the claim that is is or is not an accurate description. (2) Examine the subscores for this dimension. What contributes to your score? How might you be different from another person with the same overall score? (3) What advantages and challenges has this trait presented in your life? Describe two examples.
