Assessment task details and instructions Task 1 – Written Report Scenario: You are to write a 1500 word report to your Project Director Ms Lily Greenwood. Ms Greenwood wants a report to understand The role of a Chartered Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry She wants you to identify: The possible future developments within the job role Your report must be presented in the following format: • It must be word-processed and all pages must be numbered • It must include a reference list and/or bibliography, listing the sources used in the preparation of the report, in addition to in-text citations • Use APA 6th (Harvard) style of referencing – https://www.salford.ac.uk/skills-forlearning/home/using-and-referencing-information/referencing • Your word count must be stated at the start of the report
Assessed intended learning outcomes On successful completion of this assessment, you will be able to: Knowledge and Understanding 1. Appreciate the methods of measurement set out in NRM 2 2. Understand how to measure quantities from construction drawings and other project documents 3. Understand the broad scope of services offered by Quantity Surveyors Transferable/Practical Skills and other Attributes 1. Ability to interpret 2-dimensional drawn information 2. Understand measurement principles and being able to measure from scaled drawings 3. Numeracy, presentation skills and the ability to present information in a legible and coherent format Module Aims 1. To enable students to identify the role of the Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry 2. To enable students to quantify basic domestic building construction work by using appropriate measurement guidelines and principles 3. To introduce students to applicable techniques relevant to quantity surveying practice Word count/ duration (if applicable) Your written report should be no more than 1500 words long (±10%). The specified word count refers to the main body of the report and does not include front cover, title/contents page, reference list or bibliography. (The word count does include headings, tables and in-text citations.) Words that exceed the maximum allowed (as defined above) will not be marked. The length of an assignment is limited by a set number of words to contribute towards the development of writing skills and to ensure all work is assessed equitably. We therefore require you to complete your written report (task 1) within the number of words specified above. [You may submit up to one calendar week late, but your mark will be capped at the pass mark.] Feedback arrangements Feedback on your work will be provided in a range of ways at various times throughout this module, and different feedback will serve slightly different purposes. Feedback is designed to support your learning and help you to improve subsequent work, so you need to get the most out of the feedback provided. Please note that feedback is provided throughout the module NOT JUST ON FORMAL ASSESSED TASKS. It will be provided on your work and contribution in class, on the formal assessment tasks and, in some circumstances, during staff office hours.
