Generally based upon Thomas J. Sugrue’s article, this analytical essay must be at least 1000 words of content and provide the following points:
—First, identify the main thesis of the article.
—Second, provide a description of the main themes of the article, both noting and citing specific examples.
—Third, provide at least one analytical strength (5 points) and one analytical weakness (5 points) of the article. For each point here, please make sure to cite specific evidence from the article under review. Moreover, please make sure to cite the evidence accordingly, as outlined in this rubric.
—Fourth, talk about the relevance of the article to the modern day—for modern-day examples utilized, please make sure to cite the information accordingly; here, students must utilize at least one outside scholarly source.
—Fifth, provide a conclusion paragraph that summarizes main points of the essay.
—*In regards to citing Sugrue’s article, please utilize in-text parenthetical citations—for example, (Sugrue, 145). When citing sources outside Sugrue’s article, please utilize the correct citation style from the Chicago Manual of Style. Finally, essays are not only graded in reference to being both grammatically and structurally sound, but they can have no more than 20 percent of quoted material within them; moreover, when quoting directly from material, please make sure to utilize quotation marks and to cite the material.
