Crime, Theory and Policy

The course material provided this semester was designed to familiarize you with distinct types of crimes, theories criminologists use to explain them, and policy issues related to crime causation theories. For your final paper you are to write a critical analysis of a crime of your choice, relevant causation theories and present a policy to address it consistent with your theory choice.

Choose a crime of your choice as the topic of your paper. Be sure to include a definition of the crime
Choose at two crime causation theories that you believe help explain why this crime occurs. Be sure to: Present a policy or response to the crime consistent with the theories you have chosen that might have an impact on the crime occurring.
state what the theory is
provide information about the historical roots of the theory and,
discuss relevant concepts of the theory that explain the crime.
A title page (an example will be provided)
Introduction/Background to the Problem (1 page)
Sections related to the theoretical concepts and your topic (2 -3 pages)
A policy sections wherein you discuss responses you would employ. (1 page)
A summary/conclusion (1 page)
Reference section using APA formats at the end of the document (your reference section must include at least 5 properly formatted scholarly references.
Your paper must be typed, double-spaced, Times Roman, font 12, with 1-inch margins on all sides of the page (top, bottom, right and left).
If three or more consecutive words are used in your paper that are not your own, please enclose these words in quotation marks (“words”) followed by the author’s name, year and page number. Refer to reference books that provide information on how to cite sources (in-text citation).
