Author’s Choice One-Pager
Creating a one-pager allows you to express your comprehension, reactions, and connections to what we have been reading and discussing. Your job is to read a new short story and analyze how the author uses specific choices to create meaning.
Steps to Completion:
- Select and read one of the two following short stories: “The Interlopers” or “All Summer in a Day”
- Determine the theme of the story and write your theme here: ______________________

- Complete your one pager according to the requirements below:
| Requirements:
● All work must be completed on one page.
● Title of your short story (in quotation marks) and the author
● Theme Statement
● 3 images that relate or symbolize your theme or author’s choice.
● Pick 1 important passage from your story – your passage should be 15-25 lines. Take a screenshot of your passage and include it in your one pager.
● Mark up your passage by identifying the author’s choices we discussed in class: ○ Diction ○ Tone, Mood, Characterization Imagery, Figurative Language, etc. Hint: use different colors/methods to indicate the different types of choices.

● Analysis: Pick 3 of the choices you identified and explain what purpose is achieved with those specific choices (minimum of 3 sentences for each)
● Be colorful and neat.
● Fill the page: Don’t leave any white space.
Materials: ● You may complete this electronically, add to Notability or you may use an unlined sheet of paper and submit a picture.
