In Part 2, you will create and develop PowerPoint slides based on the outline completed in Part 1.
Purpose
Public health nutritionists are often required to educate the public on various nutrition topics. One of the best ways to assess if you understand a concept is to teach or explain it to someone else. Thus, the purpose of this assignment is to present a nutritional topic to a target audience based on scholarly, peer-reviewed literature.
Details
Your target audience is overweight high school students who have demonstrated initiative and an interest in nutrition and health. The presentation must be geared toward this population. When developing this presentation, take into consideration your audience’s reading level, cognitive abilities, and interests. The completed PowerPoint presentation (due in Module/Week 8) will be between 15–20 minutes and must include between 15–20 slides. Because there are specific requirements for all presentations regardless of the topic chosen (calcium, iron, digestion, absorption, metabolism, scripture reference, nutrient density, risks of poor nutrition, just to name a few) be sure to review the rubric for this assignment prior to submitting.
In Part 2, you will create and develop your PowerPoint slides.
· Choose a PowerPoint design, color scheme, font type, and bullet types.
· Organize the slides based on your headings and subheadings.
· Include a title slide and a reference slide at the end of the presentation.
· Do not overload the slides with text and data.
· Use bullet points to organize your text.
· Keep the text abbreviated and concise.
· Strive for clarity.
· Use pictures, graphics, charts, and graphs to illustrate key points (remember your audience).
· Graphics must make a key concept clearer.
· Use at least 30 point font size consistently throughout.
· Closing slides must emphasize key points or leave the audience with a question to think about or answer.
· Reference slide must contain citations in current AMA format.
· Review “Tips for making an effective powerpoint presentation” under Additional Material in Module 6.
This second submission does not have to contain any text or narration in the notes section of the slides (it will be required in Part 3).
Use current AMA format when citing sources on a slide.
