I need a response to two of my classmate’s discussions. I only need 100 words for each response.
1st discussion:
The Electoral College policy was implemented in 1787, by the founder fathers to prevent a majority rule in the country. Many Americans started to feel that the leadership and the government institutions were tailored from the elites and not so much for the common Americans. In the early 1800s, rising politicians such as Andrew Jackson began to champion for the common white man political voice.[1]
Therefore, the Federalists party that currently in power was beginning to decline. The Federalists was led by George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and John Adams. Federalism was a dominate force in American politics before the Democratic-Republicans party took power. The Federalists was perceived as the party of the wealthy and elites, and the Democratic-Republican led Andrew Jackson was perceived as the party of the frontiers.[2]
Furthermore, democratic reforms began to take place in the American society. For instance, the initiative to give all white men voting rights, regardless of whether they owned property, which was a law when the Federalists were in power. Rufus King was last Federalists to run for office in 1814, in an attempt to regain power from the Democratic-Republicans, that was resulted in failure. By 1818, was left of Federalist power collapse, when the state held a constitutional convention. At the state constitutional convention, the property qualification for voting was removed, expanding the voting rights to the common white men in America. After the expansion of the white men voting rights, the democratic reforms gave birth to new political party organization. For example, the “Bucktail” which was a Republican faction that started in New York and would later become effective in national politics under the leadership of Martin Van Buren.[3]

2nd discussion:
In the late 1820s, there had been vast changes in different policies and a lot stricter rules according to the federal government. The first party to overthrow the imperial government was the federalists led by the first president of the United States. Moreover, The Federalists, led by Washington, Hamilton, and Adams, dominated American politics in the 1790s. After the election of Thomas Jefferson, the Revolution of 1800 the Democratic-Republicans gained ascendance. The gradual decline of the Federalist Party is evident in its losses in the presidential contests that occurred between 1800 and 1820.
Before the 1820s, many state constitutions had imposed property qualifications for voting as a means to keep democratic tendencies in check. However, as Federalist ideals fell out of favor, ordinary men from the middle and lower classes increasingly questioned the idea that property ownership was an indication of virtue. In other words, due to the lack of ownership of a specific land or property, the privilege to vote for white males was restricted. According to the text, James Monroes winning the presidential election would enlighten the counting days for the end of federalists.
After the 1824 house of representatives, when Adam won, the president’s opponents smelled elitism in these proposals and pounced on what they viewed as the administration’s catering to a small privileged class at the expense of ordinary citizens. President Adams wished to promote manufacturing, especially in his home region of New England. To that end, in 1828 he proposed a high tariff on imported goods, amounting to 50 percent of their value. The tariff raised questions about how power should be distributed, causing a fiery debate between those who supported states’ rights and those who supported the expanded power of the federal government.
