you will want to ensure your topic has enough research available to cover the mandatory subtitles of the paper outline listed below (this is the week you take the time to look before you get busy with more reading and assignments). You can add to this outline, but your paper must contain each of these sections as subtitles in your paper. Make sure not to copy this into your paper. Subtitles if you use them versus strong topic sentences that include these sections, need to be about two words in length. See the below outline sections that must be covered in the paper and supported by academic sources (journals and government agency websites -not media sites or blogs):
APA format…all sources used in the paper must be referenced on the reference page (all APA format). Please see eQuad Library services for APA format and course materials section.
ORIGINALITY: Papers must not have any highlighted portions of nonoriginal or quoted data. All information must be “paraphrased” and not directly quoted along with being cited appropriately in the document as well as the reference page. The original paper must be written for this course and not having any part of it being used previously for any other course. This means your paper must be originally developed for this course. Do not match your topic to a previous one that you have written on in a previous Public Health Course. This allows you to develop additional expertise in other topic areas in each course. Copying from a previous paper (even your own) or an earlier assignment is a form of plagiarism called “self-plagiarism”. This will result in a zero for the paper.
Sources: At least 10 sources. This is your project/paper for the course. You are showing how you can apply each of the concepts we have been learning about to one public issue. You will want to start writing your paper early as we discuss and read about each of these course concepts. This will help you to internalize some of the information as you apply it to your paper’s subject. Be prepared to have your PH issue chosen by week 2. Once the subject has been posted in week two on the Bb DB Topic choice only, no one else can write on your issue. Sources need to journal articles, government agency websites. No media or blog or private or commercial or association websites. These are not academic sites and support narratives and agendas. Not to say this doesn’t happen with the academic journals and agencies, but at least they must be reviewed by peers and go through a process that assists with objectivity vs subjectivity.
Paper Length and font: Your paper needs to be at least MINIMUM 2,300 words (use Times New Roman Font 12 pitch). Check your word count on Word by highlighting your words of onlythe body of the paper. Place the word count on the last line on your title page as a requirement for the paper. (see title page example below) You must place your word count on the title page. If you fall under that word count (this does not count your title page, filler, tables, abstract, or reference page) you know you will not be receiving an “A” for your project. If you choose an exciting topic, it should be difficult to not surpass this word count. Double spacing throughout even around subtitles. Word count does not include abstract, references, or any tables or graphs.
