Assessment Guide:

Aim: Use scientific language to discuss evidence from scientific papers and appraise scientific reports for quality of evidence

Learning Outcome:

LO 2: Appraise scientific evidence to explain and acute and long term disease progression in relation to body tissues and systems, morbidity and mortality progression in relation to morbidity and mortality

Objective: Creating a concept map for the allocated scientific article, applying only ONE critique tool (Holland & Rees Or Caldwell) using scientific language and peer evaluation, to develop your skills in preparing for your summative assessment.

Formative Purpose:

The formative assessment will feed into the written summative assessment.

Formative brief:

Your concept map needs to demonstrate the requirements of your chosen critique tool. Concept maps are visual representations of information. They can take the form of charts, graphic organizers, tables, flowcharts, Venn Diagrams, timelines, or T-charts.

Choosing ONE of the Critique tools to critique your allocated scientific article. You are required to follow the format of the Critique tool and apply this tool to the content of this article.

Be mindful that not all components of your critique tool will apply to the content of the article. If certain points of your critique tool are not applicable, a justification will need to be provided.

You are required to provide a valid rationale for applying the content of the scientific article to the critique tool. Yes or No answers will not be accepted to support your critique.

In addition, to compliment your concept map, we would like you to submit between 500-750 word piece of written work. This will provide a rationale for your chosen components of the critique tool. Your work will be submitted as a TWO page document on Turnitin.
