Which issue do you think is more important to Arizona’s future: Managing an equitable balance between Arizona’s ethnically diverse communities, or confronting the looming environmental crisis? Choose one to write on and consider the following:

Managing a socio-political-economically equitable balance between Arizona’s ethnically diverse communities: Be sure to include a brief overview/history of Arizona’s struggles with ethnic diversity, including Native Americans, Mexican Americans, and Anglo Americans. You might include issues such as Native-American autonomy and Indian gaming; the tension between Arizona’s economic demands/history with Mexican-Americans, as well as border fears, the English-Only Movement, and Mexican American studies programs.

Environmental crisis: How do you think global warming will affect Arizona? Possible considerations might be Arizona’s future growth, economic activities/health, habitability–water and its plethora of concerns: prolonged drought, sources of water, human usage versus industrial (agriculture, mining, etc.) usage; non-native plant and animal invasion of the Sonoran Desert. You might even include a historical overview of how environmental degradation impacted earlier Arizona peoples and cultures to support your argument.

Choose one of the topics only.
Utilize at least two different sources (Not Wikipedia or encyclopedias)
Write approximately two pages (600 words minimum). You need to discuss the topic, summarize the research, offer your opinion (based on the research you did).
As always, research must be parenthetically referenced if utilizing one of our textbooks, or footnoted if using another source.
