Should Canada take a global lead to reduce its C02 emissions?

The quality of the content is more important than the quantity.  An excellent essay of 1000 words will not be penalized for being too short, nor will one of 1500 words be penalized for being too long.  Regardless of quality however, an essay below approximately 1000 words or above approximately 1500 words will be marked down.

Formatting:

Submissions must be double spaced, in a standard 12-point font with regular margins.

Any recognized citation style may be used, as long as it is used consistently throughout the essay.

Depending on citation style chosen, please include in-text citations/footnotes/endnotes as appropriate.  These citations do not replace a bibliography!

Bibliography must be included at the end on separate page(s) from the body of your essay.

Please attach a cover page to your essay.  This page should include: YOUR name, your C#, the name of the class, instructor’s name, date of submission and the title of your essay.

Content:

Research material is used to craft your argument, not to replace your own words.  The ideas presented in your essay MUST BE YOUR OWN!

Any plagiarism will be assessed a grade of 0 and no rewrites will be permitted.  Please be sure to follow correct citation guidelines to avoid this!

Be sure to have a clear introduction, body and conclusion to your essay.  Sub-headings may be used to organize material, but are not required.

Appropriate sources of research include academic works such as textbooks, non-fiction books, recognized scholarly journals, and websites of governments and respected international organizations (such as the UN or WTO).

News articles from respected outlets (BBC, AlJazeera, NY Times…) should be used to add context, but should not form the foundation of your argument.  When using news articles, be sure to account for bias in the reporting explicitly in your argument.

Documentaries, TED talks and other alternative media sources may be useful as context, but should be evaluated carefully for suitability.  Fact check information!  Show in your essay how you have evaluated the source!

Wikipedia and other encyclopedias may be used, but should be very carefully fact-checked against other sources.

Blogs of organizations or individuals who are not respected authorities in their field should be considered suspect and only used with extreme caution.

Essay websites (such as UKessays.com) may NOT be used, and inclusion of them in your final work will be considered plagiarism.

Evaluation:

Essay will be graded on depth and quality of argument, appropriateness of research materials, originality, connection to theme, grammar, and overall effort.

Be sure to keep a copy of your essay on disc or hard drive just in case!

For all essays, one which incorporates some course content (ex. theory, concepts, terms) and provides some analysis will receive a higher grade than one which simply collects information and presents it.
