This assignment is worth 25% of your final grade. Please make sure to read all the following instructions carefully before starting to write your paper in order to ensure that you will complete this assignment successfully.
Your paper will be graded out of a total of 100 points broken down in several categories as follows:
Format (i.e., overall essay structure) = 10 points
Introduction (i.e., Topic, thesis statement, context) = 10 points
Body (i.e., Main arguments, supporting arguments, paragraph structure) = 30 points
Conclusion (i.e., restatement of thesis, accomplishment) = 10 points
Sources/references (i.e., Quality of selected sources; Use of APA citation style) = 20 points
Style (i.e., Sentence structure, grammar and punctuation, word choice, etc.) = 20 points
For more details on each category, please refer to the associated grading rubric available in our course on eCentennial.
For this final written assignment, you will write an argumentative (i.e., persuasive) essay (2,500 – 3,000 words or 10-12 double-spaced pages)
Note: As stated on the course outline, this assignment is worth 25% of the final course grade.
Note: You will need to submit this entire completed document in the corresponding “Assignment” folder on eCentennial by the due date. In other words, you should not create a new document to write your paper – instead, you are to use this file/document to complete your paper.
This document includes the assignment instructions and all the pages that you will need to write to complete your essay. These pages follow below, starting with the title page of your paper on p. 3.
On that page, I have started the process for you by including a partially completed title page that you will need to fully complete (i.e., by providing your full name, student number, title of your paper, etc.) Once you complete the title page, you will then complete your essay by continuing (starting with the introduction) on the next page following the title page.
So, your essay’s overall structure/format will include a title page, 10-12 content pages (where you will present your argument(s), including introduction, body, and conclusion), and a references page where you will list your cited sources in accordance with the APA academic writing style.
Your paper format will be as follows: a) 12-point font; b) double-spaced; c) use of 5-10 relevant and appropriate sources used in support of your thesis/main argument; d) appropriate in-text citations (based on the sources in c) above) using the APA citation style, including either direct quotations, paraphrasing, or both to provide support for your overall argument(s) that you will present in support of your essay thesis.
Note that the best sources to include in your papers are academic, peer-reviewed articles published in academic journals. These types of sources are available in our library (and online, e.g., through Google Scholar, but access may be limited) where you can access them (by performing appropriate searches on your topic) by logging on to the library.
Also, keep in mind that the better the quality of your sources (best = peer-reviewed academic article sources; worse = tabloid magazine, e.g., People magazine, etc.), the higher the overall grade you will receive.
