Writing Assessment 5: Reflection Paragraph

Purpose:
The purposes of this assignment are for you to reflect on the habits possessed by successful college students to help you succeed in your English Comp I class and to practice the steps of the writing process.
Skills:
In order to reflect on the habits of successful college students, you will:
identify the habits of mind of successful college students
think critically about students’ stories and analyze the habits they demonstrate
think critically about your own habits
demonstrate self-reflection by writing a paragraph discussing your own habits of mind and your growth or change this semester
In order to practice the steps of the writing process, you will:
revise your work giving consideration to audience and purpose
utilize effective proofreading strategies to check your own work
Knowledge:
This assignment is designed to help you develop skills in analysis, self-reflection, revision, and proofreading.
Task:
To complete this assignment you will:
Open WA1 and read over what you wrote. You may also want to listen again to your NSCC Voices audio.
Revise and edit your paragraphs for content, punctuation, and grammar based on what you have learned this semester.
Next, write a new paragraph answering the following questions:
Now that you are at the end of the semester, which two of your own habits of mind have changed the most this semester? What caused this change?
In your paragraph, make sure to use specific examples that relate to your growth in writing and research this semester.
Revise with your audience (future students) and purpose (to encourage them) in mind. Elaborate to show what you mean.
Print your paragraph and proofread by marking each word with a pencil as you read. (This will slow you down and help you focus.) You are required to submit this marked-up version by submitting a scan or a picture in the dropbox.
Submit your revised WA1, your new paragraph, and your evidence of proofreading to your instructor by attaching it to the WA5 Assignment Dropbox. If you choose to do your prewriting (brainstorming) on paper, take a picture or scan and attach that to the Dropbox as well.
All Writing Assessments should be in MLA format (Times New Roman, 12 point font, double-spaced, running header, and four-line heading). (Formatting an MLA paper)
Criteria for Success:
This assignment will be graded using WA5 Rubric.
* This rubric applies to assignments submitted ON TIME in the “Assignment Dropbox” in the course shell. Late work, or work submitted on paper, will be docked at the instructor’s discretion.
