Roleplaying Assignment

We will create fictional towns in our Study Session. This will be a VERY SHORT final that may take you 1-2 hours to complete, so please do not stress out about it! Everyone always does well on Roleplaying Finals, so you will also do a great jog.
This is a ROLEPLAYING assignment. We will create these towns in class, and you will create an identity for yourself to use as you write. You will be a resident of the town you are writing about, so you know the town and have a personal connection to the town. Perhaps your father was the former Mayor or you are a City Council person or a member of the Founding Family. Have fun writing–and write “in character,” not as your actual self.

This is what we will decide on together:

You are a resident of the town and associated with one of the agencies or services below. The Mayor has asked you to write a brief, informal report explaining which agencies should be fully funded, which should have reduced funding, and which should just be eliminated.

Name of our town: KIWI CENTRAL
Location: HAWAII (O’ahu)
Most important thing we are known for: Tourism — Hiking in the mountains here and at the sea, the Crystal Clear Water! People like to snorkel here to see the Rainbow Rocks underwater that glow in brilliant colors that people love.
Biggest industry: We make replicas of the rocks in our Factory (“Treasure Rocks Inc.”)
Mayor: Bill Nye –he retired from being the Science Guy and the residents love him!

More history, businesses, people or facts we are known for: 1) an earthquake created a big crack in our nearby mountain which is now a waterfall–people hike up to see it; name of the waterfall: Sky Falls. 2) We are famous for our kiwis! They are a huge industry here in town, and they are special because they taste sweeter than others and survive long trips through the mail and stay 100% fresh! We even named our town after them. 3) 30 years ago, a drought hit the town and we almost lost our Kiwi Plantation and people had no work and it was financially devastating for us. Some of the kiwis were saved because we discovered Special Soil that helped them grow.

Second Biggest industry and Employer in Town: Kiwi Plantation Harvest, Packaging and Store and Shipping

Problem our Town has dealt with: People stealing our Rainbow Rocks from the water. It reduces our rock resources and has reduced tourism and income to the town. We are watching any exports from our Island to prevent more loss.

More history, businesses, people or facts we are known for: 100 years ago we almost ran out of sand—hurricane in the desert. A comet dropped out of the sky and clashed with the hurricane!! That was the beginning of our town. People came from all around and the settlement began.

Biggest industry and Employer in Town: SIFT and Keanu Krystals

Problem our Town has dealt with: We have people stealing our sand!! This makes it harder for us to produce our products.
