Drawing Constellations in the sky

You are required to learn how to use both of these online planetariums to complete the following assignment:

To draw the constellations:

Label the grid sheet “March 20th – Spring at Midnight;” draw and label Polaris the North Star

Write the cardinal directions in their correct locations: North, South, East, West

Write the declination numbers on the declination circles to match to how they are numbered in the online planetarium.

Write the right ascension hour numbers on the right ascension lines to match to how they are numbered in the online planetarium.

Draw a circle representing your horizon, i.e. the range of visible declinations; the center of this circle is the declination that is the same number as your latitude; the horizon circle extends from your latitude +90^o, to your latitude -90^o.

Draw theses 6 constellations at their proper locations, in their correct orientations, and of their relative sizes:

Little Dipper (part of Ursa Minor), Big Dipper (part of Ursa Minor)

Cassiopeia, Cephus

Orion, Cygnus

If a constellation is out of view draw it off to the side where it belongs at the edge of the page.

At the centers of each the Little Dipper, Big Dipper, and Cassiopeia write and label the altitude and azimuth angles.

On the back of the constellation grid describe where in the sky (on this data and time) you would have to look to see each one of these five constellations.

Label three more grids with the date of the first day of another season: Summer, Fall, and Winter); also label it at “at Midnight;” repeat the above process creating three more drawings.
