The beginnings and endings lists contain characters from the texts you have read thus far. Choose a character from the beginnings list and a character from the endings list. Choose a significant event from each character’s narrative. These two stories should have something similar in common. Sort of like how you tell someone a story of something that happened to you and they say, “oh! That reminds me of something that happened to me once…”

Describe the two characters and the nothing they sit in. Have one of the characters tell the other character the story of their significant event. This story should not be taken as a direct quote from the original text. Instead, you should paraphrase the story infusing it with YOUR INTERPRETATION of the big feelings and practical impact experienced by the character telling the story. Challenge yourself to include one detail that is not explicitly part of the original text but is consistent with your interpretation of the text. Make sure we know why this story was significant to the character who tells it. Have the other character ask a question about it. Have the first character answer the question. Then have the other character tell the story of their significant event. Have the first character ask a question about it. Have the other character answer the question. Step back and describe the world that has taken shape around the two characters. What do they see?
Write a brief analysis of this short creative writing piece including one or two significant quotations from each text that informed the stories your characters told and the world that sprung up around them. Why did you choose the characters you chose? Why did you choose the events you chose? How do those characters and events give rise to the world you describe? How is the world a representation of the stories they tell?
Your final submission will include the worksheet, the short-short story of the two characters telling stories that build worlds (this will be about 1000-1500 words, use your judgment as to how long it needs to be to be effective), and a 500 word analysis of what you made. Feel free to add images to your story or recommend a soundtrack to accompany it.
