Job Analysis
Activity Description: Helping students analyze opportunities based upon what they do
best is a vital part of helping students utilize their talents. The purpose of this activity is
to put some real positions in front of students to see how their talents and strengths may
fit that role.
The instructor will collect two or three job descriptions that will be fairly detailed in order
to show the outcomes and the responsibilities of the position. Students will write a 5-to-
6-page paper on the following questions, discussing each job description separately (2-
3 pages on each job):
For each of the outcomes or responsibilities listed for each job, students will look at
their own themes and write about which theme(s) would help them achieve the
success of outcomes described for each statement. Not all the outcomes or
responsibilities will fit each student, so there will be statements that do not assign a
theme for some students.
Would most of my strengths be utilized in this role? How so? If not, why not?
Are there some strengths that would not get much use if I took a role like this? What
are they, and how would that make me feel?
Are there some things in this position that would be difficult for me to do? If so,
what?
How well would this position fit me?
What parts of the role do not fit?
How would I feel in this type of a role?
