Final Project Submission
For your final assignment, you will need to write a college-level paper. In this paper, you will need to review and analyze a scientific, peer-reviewed journal article in psychology.
Requirements for the Study
Study must be published within the last 15 years (no older than 2005).
Study must be from a peer-reviewed journal that publishes in the field of psychology.
Study must include a Method, Results, and Discussion section. Articles cannot be an editorial, opinion, review, or meta-analysis.
To find these studies, use the RaptorSearch at MC’s library (https://library.montgomerycollege.edu/) or use Google Scholar (https://scholar.google.com/).
Format of the Paper
Double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman font type
In-text citations can be in any format you are familiar with (e.g., MLA, APA, Chicago style)
Elements of the Paper
Part 1: Summary
In 4 paragraphs and in your own words, summarize the article that you chose. All of these questions should be answered in your summary. Be sure to include the NAMES OF AUTHOR(S), YEAR, TITLE OF ARTICLE, NAME OF JOURNAL.
What was the article about?
What were the authors/researchers trying to study?
What research questions did the authors want to answer?
How did the authors/researchers collect data?
Who were the participants of the study? How many participants?
What were the overall conclusions of the study? What did the researchers find? Note, this can be found in the Discussion section of your article; do not report statistical results. If you report statistics, you will need to interpret them.
Part 2: Critically Analyze the Study
In 3 paragraphs and in your own words, identify and explain the strengths and weaknesses of the study. Describe how the study could be improved. Describe what was strong about the study including why you think that makes it strong.
Part 3: Incorporate Another Psychological Perspective or Discipline
In 3 paragraphs and in your own words, describe how another psychological perspective or another discipline could contribute to this research. For example, perhaps you find a study about cognitive development in children. You would need to discuss how could you apply biology research or sociology research to your study. Another example, perhaps you found a research study on measuring personality traits when hiring employees. You would need to discuss how you could integrate personality psychology and industrial-organizational psychology.
Part 4: Connection to Personal Experiences and Community
In 3 paragraphs and in your own words, describe how the study connects to your own experiences as well as the community. All of these questions should be answered in your description: How do the results of the study contribute to the betterment of society? How has your thinking changed about this topic since completing the assignment? In what ways does this topic relate to your own personal experience and how is your experience in agreement or disagreement with the outcomes of the study? Why is this topic of research important?
Part 5: Critical Analysis of Research as a Consumer
In 3 paragraphs and in your own words, discuss the strengths and limitations of consuming research. This should not be in reference to the study you found, but it should be about the general research process (that is, finding, reading, and comprehending research studies). Do you think it is a good idea to have people find, read, and comprehend research or should this just be an activity you do in college? Explain your reasoning. How could this assignment impact your future performance in other classes?
