PLAY REVIEW CRITERIA FOR TD-109

You will see an online theatrical production of “The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall – 25th Anniversary Celebration” and write a 2-page, double-spaced (500+ words) response paper. Please note that there is a cost of $5 to watch this production. Review deadline for The Phantom of the Opera: Wednesday, November 25 at 11:59pm. You will find the Review criteria under the ‘Assignments’ section. It is titled, “Play Review Criteria”. Please upload to Canvas under Play Review Criteria under Assignments as a pdf or Word doc. You may submit it prior to the deadline date. (Review is 60 points or 12% of your overall grade)

Write a 2 page, double spaced paper (500 words minimum).
Your paper must include the following:

Please write about the following topics, specifically addressing how these elements are used within this particular production:

Describe a moment in the play that moved you and explain why it moved you.
Describe the protagonist and antagonist of this play? Were the actors believable?
How did Christine enter the Phantom’s Lair the first time? Describe the 3 events of the journey in detail. How did it make you feel?
Who tried to save Christine when she was trapped in the Phantom’s Lair? What is the character’s name? How did this scene make you feel?
How were the technical elements used (The Set, Costumes, Lights, Sounds, Projections)? Describe specific examples from this production for each of the 5 elements. Did you think they were used effectively? Were they subtle or obtrusive?
What type of genre is the play and how does it compare to other genres?

This is not an English class. Do your best with grammar, but you will not be graded on it. You will be graded on connecting the play with the work we are doing in class.
